it’s hard to write a good song these days

my mind was once full of music
and melody and ideas
now it’s a forest of facts
and figures and formulas
i can still remember what it was
once like…..well, sort of
it’s only a memory
a city that floats out
onto the ocean
and is gone
but not quite

forgotten

Stop giving a shit about what people think. (I know you do even though you say you don't.)

It's like riding a bike...

Sometimes in life our creativity shifts direction like a sailboat on the sea. But our souls, like the captain of the ship, remain intact.

Whether your poem was "real" or not, it had an effect on me because I had a dream about you last night.

And then I listened to the RadioLab episode "Help!"

You probably know more about Tom Waits than the people on the show, but listen anyway. Be patient; it's towards the end.

Tt's a good story.

Cheers!

I feel you Bob. My ideas and words are not as accesible or aggressive as they used to be...although production skills are better, the content often feels more forced than it was, and I am not as pleased with the result. I am trying to find a new place to start from in my ideas. I take comfort in the older works of artists (all mediums) who must have felt the same and forged on to even greater matters. They probably still struggled even then. Nothing worth it, is easy. It was great seeing you in Atlanta, thanks for the hug. Even on your worst day you are one of the very best creative minds of my time. See you in July - Nevada Simmer
